(PDC-Z1-00) PARTS STRUCTURE MODULE

PARTS STRUCTURE provides validations for the key fields in the PARTS file which provide for Management-level reports.

The PRODUCT CODE, 8 positions in size, is the key field which provides for market segregation of the various Products that a company offers for sale.

When a company offers a large number of end-items to the marketplace, it is important to group these part numbers for a top-level management view of sales, order book, inventory analysis, forecast, and planned and "what-if" production and resource projections.

The PART-USE CODE, 3 positions in size, is a key field for determining where the individual Part number is positioned in the overall product structure.

The COMMODITY CODE, 4 positions in size, is crucial for grouping "like" parts for Purchasing and Materials. Companies with large numbers of Purchased Parts may choose to assign Commodity Codes to specific Buyers; (i.e., one Buyer for all Plastics, or Metals, or Capacitors, or IC's). Buyers can then handle one or more Commodity Codes.

Reporting of Purchasing-specific issues, such as Vendor On -Time Performance, Past-Due Scheduled Receipts, and PPV, can then be reported by Buyer, by Commodity Code. One objective could be to minimize the supplier base by tracking Purchases by Commodity Code, by Vendor, to determine which Vendors are suppliers of Resistors. Data can be provided on Receipts Dollar and Quantity Volume, On-Time delivery record, mileage to Vendor, etc., for World-Class analysis.

The RELEASE STATUS can also be made to serve as a "HOLD" Code. The following are Codes which have been found to be of value:
