(OBS-00) PARTS OBSOLESCENCE ANALYSIS

NOTE: Requires the BULK PULL MODULE. ------------------------------------

This memorandum explains the objectives of this Custom Module, which can help to determine Obsolete Parts.

This Module operates on the premise that after the user identifies Finished Goods (Top Assemblies) that are still ACTIVE, and explodes their total product structure in one combined process, any parts NOT included in that BOM explosion are potentially OBSOLETE.

Dependent-Demand parts can be marked as Literature, MRO or Drawings, and will NOT be identified as OBSOLETE, if they do not have an Active Parent Assembly. Expense parts and Planning Bills are likewise protected.

A Bill of Materials Explosion Program has been provided to determine which components and sub-assemblies are still "active", utilizing the Effectivity Dates. All ACTIVE Finished Goods Part Numbers are exploded, at one time.

The user must first indicate which Finished Goods will no longer be produced, and mark them as INACTIVE via the as-provided baseline methodology. The remaining Finished Goods are deemed to be ACTIVE.

In many cases, a high-level subassembly, which is not, in reality, a Finished Good, will NOT have a Where-Used. This is usually a newly engineered part, or an old Part Number which was "effectivitied out".

The Custom Module will "explode" all remaining (active) Finished Goods, writing Inventory, Supply and Demand detail on a file constructed for that purpose. Each Component and Sub-Assembly is "pegged" to the TOP-level "active" parent parts for audit purposes, rather than the immediate Parent Part Number.

Software is provided to check parts NOT included within the structure of any CURRENTLY ACTIVE Top Assembly, as to the existence of Scheduled Receipts (WO, PO), or Requirements (SO, open WO Picks or Allocations), and reports are provided.
